We are Jerry and Betty Mae Kelly III in Show Low, Arizona.

We are here to tell you the story of our Chihuahuas.

We are in our mid 60's, well Betty Mae is leaning towards the late 60's.

We have known each other since we were 5 years old and have always been  good buddies.
Spoiled!  Spoiled!  Spoiled!
Besides having their own beds, they also have their own chairs!

"The Chihuahua Addiction"

Here a while back our Grand Daughter, Natalie who has 3 of our 5 great Grandbabies decided we should have a Chihuahua. We already have a Boston Terrier, Arnie who will be 14 this coming Christmas. (Arnie went to dog heaven the day before Christmas last year) And I have a couple of cattle dogs that go trail riding with me. So as you can see we are dog people anyway.

That first little girl Miah that Natalie gave me is something else. We got her and her mother, Nina when she was 4 weeks old to baby-sit because Natalie had to go to her uncles funeral and was gone for a couple of weeks. Miah is named after our great Grandson Jeremiah because she was born on his birth day. We did not want them to go home when Natalie got back so she let them stay until Miah was 8 weeks old and then she took Nina home. I slept on the floor with her for 2 months because she was to little to get on the bed. Now she has been on the bed ever since.

I know we are supposed to train them to be nice but when she was little it was cute for her to protect me from everybody when I was holding her. To this day nobody can touch me if I am holding her. So that proves  that what they learn at a young age is hard to break them of. (but I do not try to break her very hard).

Then the next litter along came Stormy who was born on a stormy night. Well Betty Mae needed her own Chihuahua so here he came. And Man-O-Man does he fit his name.  Him and Miah are good buddies. Every night when we go to bed they have about a 30 minute wrestling match.  Nether Miah or Stormy are really full blood Chihuahua but close enough for us.

Well by now they have complete control of both Betty Mae's and my hearts. They go every where that they can with us. If they cannot go we have a baby sitter stay with them. They have more toys than our kids had.  And if they tear one up, "Oh, that was cute," and we get them another one.  I can tell you we did not do that with our kids.

Talk about spoiled, here is our typical morning in front of the
fireplace Betty Mae does not have her face on yet
I have a little spot there on the left at the pink blanket

This is the TRUE meaning of
We raise our Chihuahus in the comfort of our home
and they are part of our family
Well somewhere along the line one of us said, "Why don't we raise Chihuahuas?" That's when it really started.  We began reading about them and I got on the internet and we read and read and read and looked and looked and looked. We really lucked out in the people we found to talk to that was a world of information.

One of the first was a gal in Phoenix that did not have any puppies at the time but would talk to us. We went down one day and spent some time with her. She has been raising Chihuahuas for 32 years. If she had one Chihuahua she had 30. She could tell you the story of each one of them.

The first puppies I wanted to look at were in Prescott, Arizona. She had Maximus and Valentine, just gorgeous little puppies that we wanted to look at. A little story: when we were in Phoenix talking to that lady  she said, "I hear you are going to see my daughter Saturday." I said, "Who is your daughter?"  She said, "The lady in Prescott."  Wow how ironic is that!

Anyway we went to Prescott and we got Maximus and Valentine. And Pretty girl. And Angel.  I'm telling you you cannot stop at one.
In my travels on the internet I did pop up this lady in Auburn, California. And she had Violet. We just kept going back and going back so I finally contacted her. To make a long story short we now have Violet from her. And Bentley came along a little later. What Chihuahuas they are.

So talk about addiction, we are addicted. We have so much fun with them it is unreal. So those of you that are talking about your first Chihuahua, see if you can stop with just one.

Have a great day and remember:

My friend Arte said she is at her legal limit for Chihuahuas. I wish someone would tell me what our legal limit is so we could stop. Each and every one of these little guys is so different and so lovable.

I wake up every morning somewhere between 2 and 3 am and go downstairs and let all the babies outside to go to the bathroom, then we all snuggle up on the couch and sleep until about 6 or 7. It is a ritual.
